Zambian singer Towela Kaira recently expressed her disappointment with the organizers of the Diamond TV Personality of the Year Awards in a social media post, following an incident involving fellow nominee Milly Beauty. While commending the organizers for their efforts, Towela highlighted what she described as a distressing experience for Aunt Milly, who reportedly faced public ridicule during the event. According to Towela, a segment was aired mocking Milly’s past experiences, leading to attendees laughing at her and pointing fingers, which caused Milly to abruptly leave the venue.

Towela explained that the organizers’ decision to highlight sensitive personal moments was inappropriate, especially given that Milly was an invited guest and nominee. She clarified that Milly’s frustration was not due to jealousy towards another nominee, Faith, but rather the embarrassment of being mocked in public. Towela emphasized that while Milly’s reaction may not have been ideal, the situation could have been avoided if respect and empathy had been shown.

Concluding her post, Towela called for reflection on how public figures are treated, especially considering the mental health challenges many face. She urged for empathy, stressing the need to support rather than ridicule individuals who may be struggling privately. Diamond TV has yet to respond to Towela’s comments, which have sparked a broader conversation on social media about the ethics of public events.
